With the sequel to 2014’s The Lego Movie looming, there's been a lot of speculation about which titans of history and pop culture might pop in for a cameo. As the first film featured appearances from Han Solo, Wonder Woman, William Shakespeare, and more, fans are expecting that the sequel will be just as icon-packed. There was apparently a lot of room for imagination for some pretty funny scenarios with the cameos in the second film, but the one they envisioned as “Gary Potter,” Harry Potter’s cousin, unfortunately never made it past the development phase.

Gary Potter, an unlicensed character, was rumored to be voiced by Daniel Radcliffe himself, who was said to be on board with the project. Ultimately, the filmmakers worried that the character might not sit well with diehard Harry Potter fans, as director Mike Mitchell explained:

“Oh yeah, we were definitely going to go out to Daniel. And he was game, but unfortunately his character got cut. I don’t remember why it happened. I think it was because we didn’t want to upset any Harry Potter fans. They have such a following, so we decided to upset the Mary Poppins fans. We just made Larry Poppins.”

Even though the boy wizard's cousin will not make an appearance, there's plenty of star power in the sequel, with Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Bruce Willis, and Jason Momoa all taking part.

Mitchell went on to explain that everyone wants to be a LEGO figure, so it’s not hard to find willing participants for the films. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part hits theaters on February 8, 2019.
