In the season 8 premiere of Game of Thrones, we saw two former friends on the cusp of serious change. Jon Snow learned that he’s actually a Targaryen, and Theon Greyjoy has finally proven that he’s on the path to redemption. Their scenes in the episode are poised to bring forth both growth and struggle in the episodes to come.

Theon is once again very sure of himself, but not in the arrogant way he was in early seasons. He seems confident in wanting to return to Winterfell to make amends with those he has wronged in order to fight alongside his Stark "family" members.

Jon, on the other hand, has just had one of the biggest secrets of the entire show dumped on him, and from the look on his face at the reveal it will take some time to recover from the news. He has just learned that he is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, a throne he has been helping his new love Daenerys Targaryen acquire. How he’ll face both his duty and the truth will no doubt be a focal point in the episodes to come, but what if he gets help from an unexpected character, Theon?

Reddit user MuttonBash predicts that Theon’s return to Winterfell could actually be the best thing for Jon in his time of need. The fan writes:

“Theon is heading back to Winterfell right when Jon is having an identity crisis. The last time they spoke, Jon told him that he's ‘a Stark and a Greyjoy, he doesn't have to choose.’ If I were a writer, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity for Theon to be the one to help him out of his identity crisis using his own words.”

Fans were quick to reply, with one agreeing, “I'm pretty convinced that's the entire reason that conversation happened between them last season, to either set up Theon parroting it back or to set up Jon coming to that conclusion himself.”

Jon and Theon’s next reunion will surely be awkward, but since the Starks have always been there for Theon, and because we know he’s going to continue to try to make things right this season, a heart-to-heart when he arrives at Winterfell is entirely possible. Jon has helped him with his identity, and Theon could return the favor in the next episode.
