The Simpsons Predicted That Penultimate Game of Thrones Twist in 2017

The Simpsons has long had a reputation for forecasting real-world events. Most of this is attributable to the sheer volume of content the show, which just wrapped its 30th season, has produced. Still, it can be somewhat eerie to see plots involving stolen cooking grease, a magic act destroyed by a tiger attack, or even naming the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences winner six years in advance come to fruition. (Bengt Holmstrom, in case you were wondering.)
The show also appears to have had a handle on how Game of Thrones would be winding down. Following Sunday's airing of the fifth and penultimate episode of season 8, fans of the series pointed out that the fiery rampage of Daenerys Targaryen and her dragon, Drogon, in King's Landing was foreshadowed in an October 2017 episode of The Simpsons titled "The Serfsons." In this Game of Thrones parody, Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa are recast as feudal peasants trying to cope as Marge's mother is bitten by an Ice Walker. Later, they watch as a dragon sets their humble village ablaze.
The scene is brief and lacks context, but the imagery was similar enough for fans to take notice. Unfortunately, the show has yet to predict when George R.R. Martin will finish the book series. The Simpsons finished its 30th season this past Sunday. Game of Thrones's series finale airs this coming Sunday, May 19.
